Visit to Cincinnati Children's Hospital

Well, we are in Cincinnati and spent just about the whole day at the children's hospital.  Grayson did excellent, although he didn't like when they had to do a contrast study through his back side.  We met some excellent nurses and doctors that have quite a bit of experience with these intestinal issues.  We learned a lot and got information to keep some precautionary items at home to irrigate/flush his intestines before he became very sick.  With Hirschsprung's disease, these little guys can get intestinal infections that can be fatal if not addressed very quickly.  We also got information from one of the surgeons we met with that they would have done his last surgery a bit different.  So we have to hope he doesn't have any issues and need to have another surgery to make some changes.  It will also make a pull through surgery (to reconnect him) more difficult as they will have to undo some things that have been done. So hearing this was a bit frustrating and I wish we had his last surgery here. You get the impression that these guys deal with a lot of kids after some other surgeon has already operated on them so they don't always get the ideal situation.  We will need to do an ileoscopy procedure to compare his intestines to before because they mentioned it was very inflamed in the slides they reviewed and want to make sure there isn't anything else going on.

Overall we had some good appointments and received some good info although some of the news wasn't ideal.  Hopefully things go smoothly and we don't have to have another procedure any time soon.
